Repair Windows Installer Error 1706

Instantly repair registry conflicts with RegSweep!

This is short for Windows Installer Error 1706, which means "no valid source could be found for product."

There are a few reasons why this could occur. It could be as simple as the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM is having trouble reading your disk and may need to be cleaned. It could be as serious as problems with the Registry and/or the Windows Installer program.

Check to make sure that the CD/DVD you're installing/updating from is the original one and that both the disk and the drive are clean. If that is the case, then you may have a more serious problem.

Error 1706 has a number of more serious potential causes

A file that is required by the application could have somehow got deleted which leads to the 1706 error. This may have occurred if you installed a different program and it overwrote the existing file of that other application. To find out what the filename that's missing from the application, you can analyze your logs to see which file path is labeled as unavailable.

Once you have found out the name of the file, you can try your luck and find the specific file by using the Search feature of windows which is located under the start menu. If nothing comes up in the search results, you may have to reinstall the program. A registry cleaner and PC Optimizer like RegSweep, can sort through the Registry and determine if there is a conflict or if the file is improperly cached. If that's the case, then it should be able to fix this error. We recommend the free RegSweep scanner to see if your registry has errors or mis-configuration, possibly leading to the Error 1706 message on your PC.
